Frequently Asked Questions

PNM is upgrading electric meters as part of its Grid Modernization Project. Tribal and Pueblo communities will receive advance notifications and tailored communications before installation activities begin in their area.

Yes. The PNM Tribal Government Relations and Customer Engagement Team works with tribal leadership and staff as community stakeholders, to support communication, access permissions, and awareness of cultural events before deployment activities begin.

In most cases, customers do not need to be home if the meter is accessible to technicians. If access to the meter is restricted or located behind a locked gate, additional coordination may be needed.

PNM plans to use a consistent group of trained installation technicians for Tribal communities. These technicians receive customer interaction and cultural awareness training to help ensure respectful and consistent customer experiences.

Installation planning includes advanced coordination to account for tribal community events, permitting requirements, and other local considerations. PNM works to schedule activities in a way that minimizes disruption whenever possible.

Customers can contact PNM for assistance at any time. Questions or concerns can be escalated through PNM customer support channels, and the PNM Tribal Government Relations representatives may also assist with community-specific concerns.

The installation does not change your electric service. The new meter is designed to provide more detailed energy-use information and support future customer tools and programs.

Smart Meters support faster outage detection and response, improved reliability and service, and to help customers understand electricity consumption. Future customer portals and mobile tools will provide additional access to energy usage information.
