PNM Says Scammers Strike Again
Beware of Fake PNM Phone Number

Albuquerque, NM: PNM says a 1-800 number with a recording that sounds just like the real toll-free PNM number is a fake and is a scam aimed at taking your money.

"We advise our customers to be skeptical of any unexpected calls from people claiming to be from PNM. Especially if someone asks you to pay with a Green Dot or other prepaid card," said PNM Vice President of Customer Service and CIO Don Tarry. "Be safe. Call us at the number on your bill or posted at PNM.com before you pay."

Tarry said a customer reported receiving a phone call today from someone purporting to be from PNM. The caller said the customer would be disconnected if they didn't pay up right away. The number used was a 1-800 number that was NOT a PNM phone number. The fake number has a recording that sounds similar to the real thing and a customer could easily be fooled.

Fortunately, this customer called the real PNM at 1-888-DIAL PNM (1-888-342-5766) and verified that he had no outstanding balance.

"I want to thank this customer for alerting us and helping us keep other customers safe," said Tarry.

PNM has notified law enforcement.
