Cool Comfort Loan Program

It's easier than ever to enjoy a cool and comfortable summer by converting your evaporative (swamp) cooler to efficient refrigerated air conditioning. If you are thinking about converting, you may qualify for a low-interest loan from a participating credit union and could receive a PNM rebate, too.

A Cool Comfort Loan is easy

  • Start by contacting one of our participating, certified Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) contractors for a free estimate. Make sure to ask about manufacturer's rebates, too. The installation must be done by a licensed HVAC contractor.
  • Review our list of participating credit unions. Qualifying for a loan and the interest rate offered by the credit union will depend on your credit score. The loan programs also can vary from credit union to credit union, so check with a few to find the one that's right for you. Don't worry if you're not a member already - they will work with you. If you're not a member of these credit untions, ask them how you can join.
  • Your upgrade may also qualify for a PNM Energy Efficiency Program Cooling Rebate, too.

  • Refrigerated air conditioning increases the resale value of your home.
  • Enhances indoor air quality by reducing pollen, smoke and other particulates.
  • Provides comfort for you and your family.
  • Makes your home more secure because you can close and lock your windows.
  • Conserves a precious resource; water.
    • An average evaporative (swamp) cooler uses approximately 700 more gallons of water per month than refrigerated air conditioning. That means savings of more than 2,800 gallons for the summer season (June through September). This includes the water to generate the additional electricity use.
