PNM Names Silver City Businesses "Energy Stars"

PNM Recognizes Eight Local Businesses for their Energy-Efficient Upgrades,Saving Enough Energy to Power about 63 Homes for 1-year. 

 

(Silver City, N.M.): On Thursday, December 1, PNM recognized local businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2015 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs.  The recognition took place at a Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce luncheon.  The top eight Silver City PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Walmart Stores East LP - large business honorable mention with the highest energy savings.
  • CVS Pharmacy Inc. - large business honorable mention with the highest energy savings.
  • Sun Valley Inc. ¿ small business with the highest energy savings.
  • Southwest Triangle Auto Parts - small business honorable mention with high energy savings.
  • Snappy Mart - small business second honorable mention with high energy savings.
  • Western New Mexico University - government/nonprofit entity with the highest energy savings.
  • Glad Tidings Church - government/nonprofit honorable mention with the highest energy savings.
  • Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - govt/NP honorable mention entity with the highest energy savings.

"Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do," said Amy Miller, director, PNM Environment, Local Government and Community Affairs. "We've enjoyed working with Silver City businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us."  

The top award in the large business category goes to Walmart Stores East LP for their energy savings project that included installation of energy-efficient motors in 13 walk-in and 137 reach-in refrigerators.   The project will save 123,916 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, and earned Walmart Stores a rebate of $9,455 from PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Honorable mention went to CVS Pharmacy Inc. in the large business category for their energy-saving projects.  They received a rebate totaling $2,305 and will save 28,262 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

In the small business category, the top award goes to Sun Valley Inc. They replaced 243 lighting fixtures with higher efficiency ones.  Their project will save 79,860 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and received a rebate of $9,583 from PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Honorable mentions go to Southwest Triangle Auto Parts Inc. and Snappy Mart in the small business category for their energy-saving projects.  Together, they received a rebate totaling nearly $11,000 and will save 75,861 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

In the nonprofit/government entity category, the top award goes to Western New Mexico University.  They replaced 316 lighting fixtures with LEDs.  Their project will save 78,440 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and received a rebate of $12,048 from PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Honorable mentions go to Glad Tidings Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the nonprofit/government entity category for their energy-saving projects.  Together, they received a rebate totaling more than $7,275 and will save over 62,826 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

The rebates received from these businesses totaled $51,650 and will save 449,165 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 63 homes for a year.

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $53 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity ¿  enough to power approximately 274,000 homes for a year.  These programs have kept an estimated 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 685 million gallons of water.  For more information on the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program, please visit pnm.com/bizrebates.
