PNM Names 15 Santa Fe Businesses "Energy Stars"

Businesses completed enough energy-efficient projects to power 165 homes for 1-year

 

(Santa Fe, NM)  - On Thursday, November 16, PNM recognized 15 Santa Fe businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2016 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs.  The recognition took place at the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce Primetime Trade Show at Business After Hours event at the Courtyard by Marriott. 

The PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Ventana de Vida - large business category highest energy savings
  • Bed Bath & Beyond - large business honorable mention with highest savings
  • Pay and Save Inc.  - large business honorable mention with highest savings
  • McDonald’s -  medium business category with the highest energy savings
  • Eldorado Supermarket - medium business honorable mention highest savings
  • Wendy’s - medium business honorable mention highest savings
  • State of New Mexico -  government category with the highest energy savings
  • Dept. of Military Affairs 63rd Regional Support Command - government honorable mention highest savings
  • Santa Fe Community College - government honorable mention highest energy savings
  • Presbyterian Health Services - building tune-up category with highest energy savings
  • Santa Fe Public Schools - building tune-up honorable mention with highest savings
  • Hotel Santa Fe - distributor discount program category with the highest energy savings

These area businesses are saving 1,110,797 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually, enough to power 165 homes for a year. They are also saving 364,343 gallons of water and more than 602 metric tons of CO2 annually.

“Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do,” said PNM Vice President of External Affairs, Becky Teague. “We’ve enjoyed working with these Santa Fe businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us.” 

PC Ventana LLC (dba Ventana de Vida) received the top award in the large business category for their energy savings project that included replacing interior lighting to energy efficient lighting. Their project will save 148,628 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 81 metric tons of CO2, and 48,750 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 22 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Bed Bath & Beyond and Pay and Save Inc received honorable mention in the large business category for their energy saving projects that included lighting and HVAC efficiencies that exceeded new construction building codes and installation of controls on refrigerated cases.  Together, they will save a combined total of 145,070 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 79 metric tons of CO2, and 47,583 gallons of water. Both companies’ efforts saved enough energy to power 22 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

McDonald’s received the top award in the medium business category for their energy saving project that included projects for four locations by upgrading interior and exterior lighting to energy efficient LEDs. The project will save 200,845 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 109 metric tons of CO2, and 65,877 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 30 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs. 

Eldorado Supermarket and Wendy’s received honorable mention in the medium business category for their energy saving projects that included upgrading interior lighting to energy efficient lighting. They will save a combined total of 79,864 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 43 metric tons of CO2, and 26,196 gallons of water. Both companies’ efforts saved enough energy to power 12 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

State of New Mexico received the top award in the government/nonprofit category for their energy saving project that included interior and exterior lighting upgrades to energy efficient lighting. The project will save 219,991 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 119 metric tons of CO2, and 72,157 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 33 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Department of Military Affairs 63rd Regional Support Command and the Santa Fe Community College received honorable mention in the government/nonprofit category for their energy saving projects that included upgrading interior and exterior lighting to energy efficient lighting, installing occupancy sensors throughout, parking lot pole lighting upgrades, and adding energy efficient chillers. They will save a combined total of 125,255 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 68 metric tons of CO2, and 41,084 gallons of water.  Both efforts saved enough energy to power 18 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Presbyterian Health Services received the top award in the building tune-up category for their energy saving projects that included obtaining building operator certification training. The project will save 13,130 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 7 metric tons of CO2, and 4,307 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 2 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Santa Fe Public Schools received honorable mention in the building tune-up category for their energy saving projects that included an energy efficiency study, installation of energy efficiency measures, and an air conditioning tune-up. They will save a total of 4,595 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 2 metric tons of CO2, and 1,507 gallons of water.  Their efforts saved enough energy to power 1 home for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Hotel Santa Fe received the top award in the distributor discount category for their energy saving project that included upgrading their HVAC system.  The project will save 4,185 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 2 metric tons of CO2, and 1,373 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 1 home for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Santa Fe Fire Station received honorable mention in the distributor discount category for their energy saving projects that included upgrading their HVAC system.  They will save a total of 2,132 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 1 metric tons of CO2, and 699 gallons of water.

Santa Fe Opera received the top award in the most innovative category for combining their energy saving new construction projects that upgraded HVAC systems. The project will save 138,018 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 75 metric tons of CO2, and 45,270 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 20 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Sprouts Farmers Market LLC received honorable mention in the most innovative category for combining their energy saving projects that included refrigeration energy conservation measures; night covers for displays, and upgrading reach-in cooler controllers to be energy efficient. They will save a total of 29,084 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 16 metric tons of CO2, and 9,540 gallons of water.  Their efforts saved enough energy to power 4 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $67 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 2.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity – enough to power approximately 378,000 homes for a year. These programs have kept an estimated 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 876 million gallons of water.
