PNM Energy Efficiency Programs Benefit Customers and Environment

$26 million Economic Boost for New Mexico

Albuquerque:  PNM recently filed the 2014 Energy Efficiency Annual Report and announced that the company's programs reached a major milestone, surpassing the energy efficiency goal set for utilities set by the State of New Mexico.  New Mexico's Efficient Use of Energy Act required the utility to achieve cumulative energy savings equivalent to at least 5 percent of 2005 retails sales by 2014.

In 2014, PNM business and residential customers received $8.9 million in rebates and incentives and saved 74 million kilowatt hours of electricity from participating in PNM's energy efficiency programs.

In addition to saving money and earning rebates, the PNM energy efficiency programs helped customers make a positive impact on the environment and New Mexico's economy. By reducing energy use, PNM customers have saved 521.7 million gallons of water since 2007. That's enough water to fill 4.1 billion (16.9 ounces) plastic water bottles. Carbon dioxide emissions were cut by 905,087 metric tons, which is equal to taking nearly 190,579 vehicles off the road for a year.

PNM energy efficiency programs also provided an overall boost of approximately $26 million to New Mexico's economy in 2014 and supported approximately 45 local jobs.

"We've spent seven years building programs to achieve this goal and help customers save energy," said Steve Bean, manager, PNM Energy Efficiency Design. "Customers have responded enthusiastically and we look forward to continuing finding ways to help customers save."

PNM programs help customers save energy through:

  • Customized energy assessments
  • Rebates for installing energy efficient coolers and appliances
  • Programs that let you shift some energy use away from peak times
  • Rebates for making energy efficiency upgrades at businesses
