PNM Names 4 Alamogordo Businesses "Energy Stars"

Businesses completed enough energy-efficient projects to power 329 homes for 1-year

 

(Alamogordo, NM)  - On Wednesday, October 25, PNM recognized local businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2016 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs.  The recognition took place at the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Breakfast.

The PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Fairfield Inn & Suites - large business category with the highest energy savings
  • Walmart Stores East - medium business category with the highest energy savings
  • McDonald’s - medium business honorable mention highest savings
  • Alamogordo - government category with highest energy savings

These area businesses are saving 2,228,022 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually, enough to power 329 homes for a year. They are also saving 730,791 gallons of water and more than 1,208 metric tons of CO2 annually.

"Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do," said PNM Vice President of External Affairs, Becky Teague. "We've enjoyed working with these Alamogordo businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us."

TNT InvestBramh LLC (dba Fairfield Inn & Suites) received the top award in the large business category for their energy savings project that included replacing and upgrading their interior lighting, occupancy sensors, and exterior lighting to energy efficient LEDs.  The project will save 1,440,388 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 781 metric tons of CO2, and 472,447 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 213 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Walmart Stores East and IGT Enterprises Inc. (dba McDonald’s) received honorable mention in this category for their energy saving projects which included McDonald’s replacing and upgrading lighting to energy efficient LED lighting.  McDonald’s will save a total of 55,083 kWh of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 30 metric tons of CO2, and 18,067 gallons of water. Both companies’ efforts saved enough energy to power 36 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Alamogordo Public Schools received the top award in the nonprofit/government/public service category for their energy saving project that included energy efficient interior upgrades in new construction, exterior lighting upgrades, and HVAC upgrades for two elementary schools. The project will save 540,575 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 293 metric tons of CO2, and 177,309 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 80 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs. 

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $67 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 2.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity – enough to power approximately 378,000 homes for a year. These programs have kept an estimated 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 876 million gallons of water.
