PNM Solar Energy Incentive Program:
Determining System Size

You can do some simple math to calculate the approximate size of the solar PV or solar thermal system you will need.

  1. Using your utility bills or PDF copies of them available when you log in to your PNM online account, find the kWh (kilowatt-hour) usage for each month of the last year.
  2. Divide the total by 365 to get the daily average kWh figure.
  3. Multiply the daily average kWh figure by 0.25.

The result is the approximate size of the solar energy system, in kilowatts, needed to meet the electrical demand of your home or business.

Your contractor will be able to give you more specific information about the sizing of your system.
