PNM Solar Direct

PNM is committed to working with our customers to find generation and distribution solutions to their energy needs. Several large customers have established goals for using clean energy and reducing their carbon footprint. Through a collaborative partnership, PNM and its large customers, including the City of Albuquerque, have created the PNM Solar DirectSM program to cost-effectively achieve their higher sustainability goals.

PNM Solar Direct is an innovative opportunity for PNM business customers who use large amounts of electricity with an aggregate load of 2.5 megawatts or greater. This program helps achieve their higher sustainability goals while reducing their carbon footprint.

Customers could include:

  • Governmental entities of any size
  • PNM service area Tribal lands
  • Tribal entities such as the Albuquerque Indian School district
  • City municipalities
  • County entities
  • State entities
  • Public education schools
  • University and college educational institutions
  • Businesses

As approved by the New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission on March 25, a 50-megawatt universal solar field built in Rio Arriba County on more than 400-acres of the Jicarilla Apache Nation land.

This project is the third largest solar project on Tribal lands in the United States.

Any customer meeting the aggregate load requirements of 2.5 megawatts or greater may subscribe to the voluntary PNM Solar Direct program to receive the solar electricity at the set price. The customers also commit to the requested amount of electricity for 15 years. The fixed price of electricity over the subscription term will protect the customers from fluctuating energy costs. They will also receive a credit on their electric bills based on their subscription levels.

PNM customers who have not voluntarily subscribed to the program are not responsible for subsidizing the PNM Solar Direct program costs.

This site produces enough clean energy to power approximately 16,000 average homes for a year.

For PNM, this new program is consistent with the company's ongoing transition to cleaner, sustainable energy resources.
