PNM Customers Saved 1 Billion Kilowatt-hours

Albuquerque: By taking advantage of energy-saving discounts and rebates, PNM customers have saved 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity since 2007.

By reducing energy use, PNM customers reduced water use at power plants by enough to fill 2.8 billion (16.9 ounce) plastic water bottles. Emissions of carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas primarily associated with global warming, were cut by 527,000 metric tons, the equivalent of taking 152,771 cars off the road for a year.

"This is a reminder that our individual actions add up," said Amy Miller, who manages PNM's energy-saving programs.

PNM helped its customers save energy through:

  • Discounts on energy-efficient light bulbs (over 1 million purchased last year),
  • Recycling old fridges,
  • Programs that let you shift some energy use away from high-use times, and
  • Rebates for installing efficient lighting and refrigeration at businesses.
