Energy Works September 2025
What Is Community Solar
Community solar is a program available to most PNM customers allowing them to subscribe to a community solar project without installing solar panels on their home or business. The power that serves your home will still come from PNM. Each month, your solar energy subscription will provide you with a credit on your PNM bill. If you subscribe, you will receive two bills: one from PNM and one from your community solar project subscription.
Tips Before Signing Up
Compare Multiple Quotes
- There are multiple companies offering community solar subscriptions in New Mexico. Comparing quotes can help ensure that you are receiving the best offer and that you are working with a reputable company.
Know the Length and Terms of Your Contract
- Always read your contract. Make sure you know the following:
- How long is the contract and will it renew automatically?
- How are savings calculated? Will your payments increase at any time?
- Will your provider conduct a credit check?
- Can you cancel or change your contract and how much notice is needed?
Stay Informed
- Be aware of false claims. While community solar can save you money, it will never eliminate your electric bill. Always make sure you understand how enrolling in community solar will impact your electric bill before you sign up. If you are not satisfied with an explanation given to you by a community solar provider, you can shop around for other community solar providers.
Visit PNM.com/communitysolar for more information about PNM's role in the program, who can subscribe, and helpful links to help make an informed decision on a provider.
Annual PNM Community Assistance Fair
Saturday, October 25
10 AM to 2 PM
Albuquerque High School,
800 Odelia Rd NE
Join us for our annual Assistance Fair. This event aims to support community members living on a low or fixed income by connecting them with essential resources and services.
We plan to have over 40 organizations providing information on free services and programs related to food, housing, transportation, clothing, employment, education, financial assistance, and more. On-site utility assistance will also be available from PNM, New Mexico Gas Company, Comcast/Xfinity, and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.
Protect Yourself Against Copper Theft
September is PNM Copper Theft Awareness Month. Copper theft is an ongoing issue for businesses, residents, and utilities every year. Copper theft is illegal, costs customers thousands of dollars to replace, and it also comes with a serious safety hazard.
If you are a business owner, there are protective devices you can install that barricade the doors to transformers and meters which cover the locks and handles to deter access. Visit PNM.com/energy-and-copper-theft for more information.
If you notice any electrical equipment or facility that has been tampered with by thieves, do not touch the transformer or meter, or any wires that may be sticking out as they may be energized. Even if there are no sparks the wires may be live and dangerous...even deadly! Call PNM at 888-DIAL-PNM so we can send a crew to make the area safe.

Hot Air Balloon Safety
As October approaches, hot air balloons will soon fill our skies. It is part of what makes New Mexico so special. PNM line crews are trained and experienced in assisting balloons entangled in poles and wires. We also work closely with our first responders to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Electricity seeks the nearest path to ground, which means an energized line that poses no danger to a balloon hanging on one wire could become deadly for everyone involved if someone touches the ground and the balloon at the same time.
If a balloon hits a power line, pole or other electrical equipment, do not go near it or touch it. Instead, call 911, then call PNM at 888-DIAL-PNM.
Our natural instincts are to jump in and assist, but the safest thing for onlookers and everyone inside the balloon is to stay away and call for help.
Sign Up For Budget Billing
Budget Billing gives you more predictable energy bills by balancing seasonal highs and lows, taking the guesswork out of your monthly bill. Once signed up, you'll pay the same amount every month making budgeting and planning much easier.
You still pay for the energy you use, but your total costs are spread evenly throughout the year. Budget Billing amounts are evaluated twice a year, usually in February and August, and may go up or down based on your actual usage and updated energy costs.
