PNM Names Pueblo Businesses "Energy Stars"

PNM Recognizes 3 Pueblo Businesses for their Energy-Efficient Upgrades,
Saving Enough Energy to Power about 132 Homes for 1-year.

 

(Albuquerque, N.M.): Today, December 8, PNM recognized three tribal businesses for going above and beyond in saving energy in 2015 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs.  The top three tribal PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Sandia Resort & Casino - large business with the highest energy savings.
  • Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa -  large business honorable mention with high energy savings.
  • Pueblo of Santa Ana Tamaya Wellness - large business honorable mention with high energy savings.

"Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do," said Amy Miller, director, PNM Environment, Local Government and Community Affairs. "We've enjoyed working with these pueblo businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us."  

The top award in the large business category went to Sandia Resort and Casino for their energy savings project that included replacing less efficient exterior street lighting with energy efficient LED lighting. Also, as part of their new construction project, they installed energy-efficient interior lighting at the convention center and exercise center, and installed high efficiency interior and exterior lighting in the parking garage.  These projects will save 508,259 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and they earned a rebate of $38,406 from PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.  Sandia Resort and Casino will save about 166,000 gallons of water, will save about 316 metric tons of carbon dioxide, and will save enough energy to power about 70 homes for 1-year.

Honorable mention in the large business category went to the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa as well as the Pueblo of Santa Ana Tamaya Wellness Center for their energy-saving projects.  Projects at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa included retrofitting their HVAC system and installing 370 new guest room occupancy sensors.  Pueblo of Santa Ana Tamaya Wellness Center included installation of high efficiency lighting in the exercise center.   Together, they received a rebate totaling more than $68,089 and will save 444,939 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.  Combined, they will save about 145,495 gallons of water, will save approximately 276 metric tons of carbon dioxide, and will save enough energy to power about 61 homes for 1-year.

The rebates received from these businesses total more than $106,495 and will save nearly 953,200 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 132 homes for 1- year.

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $53 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity ¿  enough to power approximately 274,000 homes for a year.  These programs have kept an estimated 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 685 million gallons of water.  For more information on the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program, please visit pnm.com/bizrebates.
