PNM Names Alamogordo Businesses "Energy Stars"

PNM Recognizes Alamogordo Businesses for Their Energy-Efficient Upgrades

 

Albuquerque: On Thursday, September 29, PNM will recognize local businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2015 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs.  The recognition will take place at a breakfast at The 19th Hole at Desert Lakes Golf Course.  The top five Alamogordo PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Walmart Stores  - large business with the highest energy savings.
  • Albertsons - large business honorable mention with highest energy savings.
  • Tularosa Basin Telephone Company, Inc. - large business honorable mention with high energy savings. 
  • Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - nonprofit with the highest energy savings.
  • Marr Breeding - most innovative business with the highest energy savings.

"Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do," said Amy Miller, director, PNM Environment, Local Government and Community Affairs. "We've enjoyed working with Alamogordo businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us."  

The top award in the large business category goes to Walmart Stores for their energy savings project that included replacement of 45 refrigeration cases and walk-in coolers.  The project will save 840,376 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, and earned Walmart Stores a rebate of $63,028 from the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program.

Honorable mentions go to Albertsons and The Tularosa Basin Telephone Company in the large business category for their energy-saving projects. Combined, they received rebates of more than $7,000 and together will save nearly 100,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

In the nonprofit category, the top award goes to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The church installed energy-efficient interior lighting, which will save 5,759 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and received a rebate of $464 from the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program.

Marr Breeding receives the most innovative award with their new construction project that included installing high-efficiency lighting in a 56,870 square foot sports arena. Marr Breeding's project successfully balanced energy efficiency with the need to properly illuminate horse racing and other equine sports in a very large area. The project will save 207,007 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and earned Marr Breeding a PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program rebate of $15,526.

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $53 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity ¿  enough to power approximately 274,000 homes for a year.  These programs have kept an estimated 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 685 million gallons of water.  For more information on the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program, please visit pnm.com/bizrebates.
