Reports of PNM Customers Being Targeted by Scammers

Imposters posing as PNM to steal customers money

 

Albuquerque: PNM is urging customers to be alert for another possible phone scam reported during the past few days. Scammers have been calling customers claiming to be a PNM employee, threatening to disconnect service due to a past due amount, and demanding an immediate payment made through a cash card or cash payment. 

"If it doesn't feel right, or if you are being asked to wire money or purchase a prepaid gift card it's a scam and I urge customers to contact PNM for their own protection," Becky Teague, PNM Executive Director of External Affairs.

If you receive a call that seems suspicious, hang up and call PNM using the number on your bill (1-888-DIAL-PNM).

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Never provide your PNM account information to someone who has contacted you.  A PNM customer service representative will be able to provide you with your PNM account number and past-due amount, which will match your bill.
  • Check your bill. If you are in danger of disconnection, this will be written in bold on the front page.
  • Please report fraudulent calls and scams to law enforcement.
