By replacing the five most-frequently used light bulbs in your home with models that have earned the ENERGY STAR designation, you can save up to $75 each year. Compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, energy-efficient LEDs typically use between 25%-80% less energy than traditional light bulbs and can last up to 25 times longer. You can learn more about the difference between energy efficient light bulbs as compared to traditional incandescent bulbs here.
Light Bulb Recycling and Proper Disposal
What do you do once you have changed out all your old light bulbs with energy efficient ones? Recycle them. Just like car batteries, CFLs need to be recycled. Also, it¿s important to be safe when swapping out your incandescent bulbs or CFL bulbs for energy-efficient LED bulbs. Especially for CFL bulbs since all fluorescent lights contain a small amount of mercury, care should be taken when disposing of a used compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) or cleaning up a broken one. It's only when a fluorescent bulb breaks that the mercury is released. The mercury is safely sealed in the glass tubing when a bulb is intact or in use.
