IMPORTANT UPDATE

Your PNM Bill

Information about recent meter reading and billing delays, what you may see on your bill and available assistance.

What's Happening

We recently experienced meter reading and billing delays due to a temporary shortage of meter readers. That issue has been resolved, and we've started to read the meters of our affected customers.

Whether your bill was estimated or delayed, you are only billed for the electricity you actually used.

Please Note: We know a higher or unexpected bill can be difficult to manage. We are not assessing late fees or disconnecting service for nonpayment while we work with customers affected by the recent billing delays.

Estimated Bills

Some customers received an estimated bill when we weren't able to read their meter. Estimates were based on the prior month's usage and the same month last year.

Now that we have an actual reading, we've made any needed adjustment so your bill reflects the electricity you actually used.

If your estimate was too high, the adjustment will reduce the amount billed on your next statement. If the estimate was too low, the difference will be included on your next bill.

If You Didn't Receive a Bill
If You Didn't Receive a Bill

Some customers did not receive a bill during the meter reading delays. Your upcoming bill may include more than one billing period, so the total may be higher than a typical monthly bill.

For bills covering additional days, we expand the amount of electricity billed at the lower-priced Block 1 and 2 rates beyond the normal monthly 450 kWh. This helps ensure you are billed at the appropriate rates for the number of days included in your bill.

Factors Affecting Your Current Bill

Why might my bill be higher?

Several things can affect the amount of your bill.

Your previous bill was estimated

If your previous bill was estimated, it may have been lower than the electricity you actually used. Now that we have an actual reading, we've adjusted your bill for the difference.

More days on your bill

If you did not receive a bill during the meter reading delays, your upcoming bill may cover more than one billing period. That can make the total higher than a typical monthly bill.

Hotter summer weather

This summer had longer stretches of hotter weather compared to previous years. That can cause air conditioners and other cooling systems to run more often and for longer periods, increasing your electricity use even if you haven't changed how you normally use energy.
