PNM Employees Celebrate Earth Day by Working on Animas

Farmington: The Animas River is a critical resource, whether you prefer camping, fishing, whitewater rafting or rely on it for farming. As part of the continued focus on the environment, PNM is partnering with the San Juan Watershed Group to help preserve this magnificent natural resource.

"We realize the importance of the Animas for everyone in the Four Corners region and want to play an important part in preserving the quality of this resource," said Chris Olson, vice president, PNM Generation.

The dedication to preserving the river extends beyond the power plant. PNM employees from the San Juan Generating Station, who also enjoy the river for recreation, will head out to the Animas River just before Earth Day to help clean up debris and trash. Their work will ensure that all who visit the area will have a safe and clean place to enjoy.

"The Watershed Group is looking forward to continuing our relationship with PNM on this river clean up." said Julia Campus, planning and outreach coordinator, San Juan Watershed Group. "Friday's events will provide a good opportunity to do some real hands-on work on the river, and remind us, especially in light of Earth Day, that a healthy environment depends on us all. PNM has also been a great supporter of our microbial source tracking project, which studies the sources of E.coli in the rivers, and we look forward to working together to positively affect water quality in the San Juan watershed."

With headquarters in Albuquerque, PNM is the largest electricity provider in New Mexico, serving 500,000 customers in dozens of communities across the state. PNM is a subsidiary of PNM Resources, an energy holding company also headquartered in Albuquerque. For more information, visit PNM.com.
