PNM customers saved more than 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and received $55 million in rebates

Albuquerque: PNM recently filed its 2015 Energy Efficiency Annual Report with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) and submitted a plan to expand its customer energy saving discount and rebate programs.

By participating in PNM energy efficiency programs, PNM customers have saved more than 1.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity since 2007. That's enough electricity to serve approximately 274,000 homes for a year.

By reducing energy use through PNM's programs, PNM customers reduced water use at power plants by 685 million gallons, enough to fill 5.4 billion (16.9 ounces) plastic water bottles. Emissions of carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas primarily associated with climate change, were cut by 1.2 million metric tons, the equivalent of taking 258,532 cars off the road for a year.

"This is a reminder that our individual actions add up," said Amy Miller, director, Community and Local Government Affairs. "We know that our programs help customers save energy and money, but they also have added environmental benefits that can be significant."

Additionally, through PNM energy efficiency programs, PNM customers have received $55 million in rebates since 2007.

PNM helped its customers save energy and money through:

  • Personalized home energy assessments.
  • Rebates for installing energy efficient cooling equipment and appliances.
  • Programs that let you shift some energy away from peak electric usage times.
  • Rebates for making energy efficiency upgrades at existing businesses and construction of new businesses.
  • Recycling old refrigerators.
  • Discounts on energy efficient light bulbs.
  • Energy efficiency kits for low income customers.
  • Energy efficiency curriculum and kits for fifth grade students.

Additionally, a new home construction program will be added to help encourage the building of more energy efficient homes.
