Power Outage Preparedness
Ensuring your safety, staying informed about potential outages, and having a plan in place can make all the difference during a power outage. Here are tips to help you navigate power outages with confidence, keeping you and your loved ones safe and ready for any situation.
Stay Safe.
- Always consider a power line energized and dangerous. Stay away from downed power lines. If you see a downed power line, do not touch it or anything in contact with it. Call 911 immediately, then call us at 888-DIAL-PNM.
- Secure outdoor items that can be blown into nearby power lines under high winds and cause power outages.
- Charge your phone. During a power outage, your cell phone becomes a vital tool for communication and information. Keep your cell phone fully charged before an outage occurs, and consider investing in portable chargers or power banks.
Stay Informed.
- Receive important notifications during power outages by updating your contact information and signing-up for outage alerts. View and update your contact information at PNM.com/login or give us a call at 888-DIAL-PNM. Sign up for outage alerts by texting #REG to 78766 and then #ALERT to 78766 from a phone number associated with your account.
- Report an outage. PNM may not be aware of an outage in your area unless you report it by texting #REG to 78766 and then #OUT to 78766, going online at PNM.com/outage, or calling us at 888-DIAL-PNM.
- View an outage at PNM.com/outagemap.
Stay Prepared.
- The American Red Cross advises you to prepare a power outage kit including water, food, flashlights, and medications.
- Have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or using power-dependent medical devices. If you or a family member uses medical equipment that requires electricity, talk to a doctor or health care provider about how you can prepare for its use during a power outage. Register with PNM's LifeWatch to get important outage alerts. Visit PNM.com/lifewatch.
- Create a safety plan, especially if you live in a high wildfire risk area. Your plan should include multiple people who can provide you with support. Regularly review and update your emergency plan to stay prepared and have peace of mind.
Budget Billing
Budget Billing gives you more predictable energy bills by balancing seasonal highs and lows, taking the guesswork out of your monthly bill. Once signed up, you'll pay the same amount every month making budgeting and planning much easier. You still pay for the energy you use, but your total costs are spread evenly throughout the year. Budget Billing amounts are evaluated twice a year, usually in February and August, and may go up or down based on your actual usage and updated energy costs.

Low-Income Support from Energy Efficiency Rebate
More than 400 New Mexico families struggling to make ends meet will receive help paying their PNM bill, thanks to support from Intel. The company has made substantial energy efficiency investments in its Rio Rancho facility and will re-allocate a portion of its PNM energy efficiency rebate check to help income-qualified families by paying part or all of their past-due electric bills.
"We want to thank Intel for its leadership and generosity to help our most vulnerable customers," said Ebony Vizcaino, PNM's manager of outreach and engagement. "Intel's contribution will help so many families with their electric bill, and we hope this will inspire other local companies to turn their energy efficiency savings into support for the PNM Good Neighbor Fund as well."
"We are proud to help families who may be struggling here in New Mexico," said Frank Gallegos, Director of Intel New Mexico public affairs. "We are committed to understanding the needs of our local communities and finding innovative ways to give back to those most vulnerable. Redirecting our rebate savings toward an important cause is the right thing to do. We thank PNM for helping us save energy and money and for providing the PNM Good Neighbor Fund to help those who need help with their electric bill."
As part of PNM's Business Energy Efficiency Programs, Intel installed qualifying energy efficient equipment, that saved more than 6 million kilowatt-hours of energy, enough to power almost 600 homes for a year or drive an electric vehicle around the world more than 900 times.
PNM is encouraging other companies who take advantage of the Business Energy Efficiency Programs, to consider re-allocating a portion of that rebate to the PNM Good Neighbor Fund if possible.
The PNM Good Neighbor Fund is one of PNM's long-standing programs to help low-income families in emergency circumstances. It is primarily funded by PNM's shareholders, employees and customers.
