PNM Solar Facility
The PNM solar facility is a 25-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
It produces enough energy to supply the annual electricity needs of about six average New Mexico homes.
The facility, built in 2006, will operate virtually maintenance-free for 20-25 years.
The 22 arrays, each containing four solar PV panels, is visible to motorists on Interstate 25 at Algodones.
The facility provides a clear environmental benefit as a generating resource. It also is intended to promote solar PV technology to the public.
Solar PV at home
Installing solar PV on a large scale is cost-prohibitive, but can be a viable option for small, rooftop applications.
PNM pays customers with small systems – 10 kW AC or less – for their systems' environmental benefits.
The PNM program, combined with state and federal tax incentives, can reduce the installation cost by about 60 percent.
