PNM is offering homebuilders a rebate for each Energy Star-qualified home they build in a PNM electric service area.

Three rebate levels

  • Tier I - $500 maximum.
    • Home must achieve a HERS Index energy rating of 85 to 71.
  • Tier II - $750 maximum.
    • Home must achieve a HERS Index energy rating of 70 to 51.
  • Tier III - $1,000 maximum.
    • Home must achieve a HERS Index energy rating of 50 or lower.

Homes must be completed between Dec. 16, 2008 and Dec. 15, 2009 and meet all requirements of an Energy Star-qualified home.

Homes completed between Oct. 1, 2007 and Dec. 15, 2008

  • All outstanding rebate forms must be received by July 31, 2009.
    • After this date, the PNM Energy Star Home Program will only offer rebates on homes completed on or after Dec. 16, 2008.
    • Maximum rebate amount is $500.

What does Energy Star qualified mean?

  • Homes that earn the Energy Star Home rating must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Typically 20 to 30 percent more energy-efficient than standard homes.
  • Every Energy Star-qualified home must include :
    • Effective insulation and air sealing
    • High performance windows, doors and skylights
    • Tight construction and ducts
    • Independent testing and inspection

How to get a rebate

  1. Register with the Energy Star homebuilder program administered by the EPA and receive an Energy Star Partner number.

  1. Register as a Participating Homebuilder.

Register online for the 2009 Energy Star Homes Program (pnmgcesh.com)

  1. Build a new home to Energy Star standards.
    • Located in PNM electric service territory.
    • Has a PNM residential electric account.
  2. Arrange for a qualified Home Energy Rater (HER) to inspect the new home.
  3. The HER will issue an energy rating.
    • Energy rating must be equal to or less than 85 to receive a rebate.
    • Rater will provide you with a HERs report and an Energy Star certificate listing the home's rating.
  4. Submit the following documentation to the address provided on the rebate form.
    • Completed PNM Energy Star Homebuilder Rebate Registration form
    • Completed PNM Energy Star Homebuilder Rebate form
    • Copy of Energy Star Certificate
    • Home Energy Rater's reports
  5. Receive a rebate check in 6-8 weeks.
