PNM is offering homebuilders a $500 rebate for each Energy Star-qualified home they build in PNM gas and electric service areas.

What does Energy Star qualified mean?

• Homes that earn the Energy Star Home rating must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Features of an Energy Star-qualified new home (energystar.gov)

• Typically 20 to 30 percent more energy-efficient than standard homes.
• Every Energy Star-qualified home must include :
  • Effective insulation and air sealing
  • High performance windows, doors and skylights
  • Tight construction and ducts
  • Independent testing and inspection

How to get a rebate

1. Builder registers with the Energy Star homebuilder program administered by the EPA and receives an Energy Star Partner number.
2. Builder registers with PNM as a Participating Homebuilder.
3. Builder builds a new home to Energy Star standards.
   
   • Located in PNM electric and/or gas service territory.
   • Has a PNM residential electric and/or gas account.
4. Builder arranges for a qualified Home Energy Rater (HER) to inspect the new home.
5. An energy rating is issued by the HERs.
• Energy rating must be equal to or less than 85.
• Rater will provide the homebuilder with a HERs report and a certificate listing the home's Energy Star rating.
6. Builder submits the following documentation to the address listed on the rebate form.
   • Completed PNM Energy Star Homebuilder Rebate Registration form
   • Completed PNM Energy Star Homebuilder Rebate form
   • Copy of Energy Star Certificate
   • Home Energy Rater's reports
7. Receive rebate check for $500 per Energy Star qualified home.
   • Mailed to you in 6-8 weeks.

Homes in PNM electric service areas must be completed between October 1, 2007 and December 31, 2009. In gas areas, homes must be completed between January 18, 2008 and December 31, 2009.
