June 17 Energy Star® Homes Workshop Sponsored by PNM and New Mexico Gas Company
Albuquerque: EPA Energy Star Homes national director Sam Rashkin will discuss new 2011 energy efficiency standards for builders and others interested in energy efficient construction at a Thursday, June 17 workshop sponsored by New Mexico Gas Company and PNM.
The workshop takes place at the Embassy Suites, 1000 Woodward Place in Albuquerque, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch and a light breakfast will be served. For questions or to RSVP, call Robin at (505) 440-7548 or visit www.NMSaves.com/news. The cost is $30 per person.
The 2011 Energy Star building standards raise the bar for new construction by incorporating a systems approach that reduces energy use and protects the environment while increasing comfort and durability, according to Rashkin. He will discuss why investing in energy efficiency makes sense, even with a housing market in crisis.
Currently, to earn an Energy Star rating, a home must be least 15 percent more energy efficient than homes built to the 2006 International Residential Code. Some homes that earn the rating include additional energy-saving features that can make them 20 to 30 percent more efficient than standard homes.
Rashkin will also honor New Mexico builders participating in the New Mexico Gas Company and PNM Energy Star Homes programs, which pay an incentive to builders who build Energy Star-qualified homes. From January 2009 through April 2010, 673 homes have been built to Energy Star standards through the programs.
