PNM, Helping Organizations Host Assistance Fair on Saturday, April 18 at the Santa Fe Indian School

Albuquerque: Santa Fe residents in need can sign up for help with utility bills and weatherization, receive a $25 John Brooks grocery card while supplies last and more at the 2009 Spring Assistance Fair on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Santa Fe Indian School, 1501 Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe. The fair is sponsored by PNM and area helping organizations.

“We want to make it easy for families to get the help they need, and learn how to lower and manage energy bills,” said Amy Miller, PNM manager of Stakeholder Engagement.

At the fair, people will be able to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help pay winter energy bills, free home weatherization, Medicaid and food stamps; receive a free money-saving compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), while supplies last; get tips on lowering energy bills at home and, from noon to 1 p.m., enjoy a free hot lunch.

Assistance programs are based on household income. To sign up, PNM recommends bringing:

  • Proof of household income;
  • An ID for the person filling out the application;
  • A social security number for all household members;
  • One of the following from the last 12 months:
    • Your highest gas or electric bill for 30 days of service;
    • An account history printout from a propane company or receipts for two propane fills with the fewest days in between;
    • A receipt for a wood purchase, or,
    • A disconnect notice, if you have received one, or the cost of starting utility service at your home.

The Santa Fe Indian School, the New Mexico Department of Human Services, Los Amigos Education Resource Center and AM 810 KSWV Que Suave joined PNM to make the fair possible.

The fair takes place in the school cafeteria. Admission is free. For information call PNM at 1-888-DIAL PNM (1-888-342-5766).
