PNM Electric Customers Purchase 1 Million Discounted CFLs Albuquerque: PNM electric customers have now purchased 1 million compact fluorescent light bulbs under the utility’s CFL rebate program -- saving more than $4 million in energy costs, 33 million kilowatt hours of energy and 48 million pounds of power plant emissions annually. “Customers have responded to our program in a big way,” said Sue Fullen, vice president of marketing and customer service. “With energy prices rising and pocketbooks strained, customers are looking for ways to save money. With this and our other energy efficiency programs, we’re able to help customers manage their bills while also reducing the impact we have on the environment.” CFLs use 75 percent less electricity and last up to 10 times longer than traditional incandescent light bulbs. When placed in a frequently used lamp, a CFL can save a customer about $30 in energy costs over a bulb’s lifetime. CFLs can be purchased for under $1 each with instant, in-store discounts offered by PNM at a number of leading retail stores in New Mexico, including Albertsons, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walgreens, Wal-Mart and some locations of Ace and True Value stores, Samon’s and Raks Building Supply.
