PNM and the City of Albuquerque to Albuquerque: The City of Albuquerque and PNM will offer free Christmas tree recycling at three Albuquerque locations starting Friday, Jan. 2. “Recycling Christmas trees is one of the many ways that the citizens of Albuquerque can help the Mayor and the City of Albuquerque reach its goal of zero landfilling by the year 2030,” said Leonard Garcia, Director of the Solid Waste Department for the City of Albuquerque. PNM Vegetation Management crews and City of Albuquerque Solid Waste and Parks Department staff will ground the trees into chips, which can then be used as mulch to provide a better growing environment for plants in city parks and landscapes. Residents can also pick up mulch for use in their home landscapes free of charge. “PNM has been doing this for 20 years,” said Pat Vincent-Collawn, PNM President and CEO. “By recycling trees, we turn them into something really useful. Mulch helps retain moisture in soil, protects soil from temperature extremes, and cuts down on weed growth and dust.” Trees can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2 through Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at:

PNM, Bernalillo County and Soilutions are providing tree recycling for county residents.
