PNM and the City of Albuquerque Albuquerque: The City of Albuquerque and PNM will offer free Christmas tree recycling at three Albuquerque locations starting Monday, Dec. 31. “By recycling your Christmas tree, you are saving valuable landfill space and giving back to the environment,” said Leonard Garcia, Director of the Solid Waste Department for the City of Albuquerque. PNM Vegetation Management crews and City of Albuquerque Solid Waste and Parks Department staff will ground the trees into chips, which can then be used as mulch to provide a better growing environment for plants in city parks and landscapes. Residents can also pick up mulch for use in their home landscapes free of charge at all three locations listed below. “Mulch helps retain moisture in soil, acts as an insulating blanket to protect soil against temperature extremes, and reduces weed growth. Recycling your Christmas tree allows the tree to complete its natural life cycle,” explained Cindy McGill, Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Strategy. Trees can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31 through Sunday, Jan. 6 2008 at:
