Customers Make PNM Wind Program Albuquerque: With 13,795 voluntary subscribers, the PNM Sky Blue® wind energy program has cracked the top 10 list of green energy programs in the nation. According to statistics compiled by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the PNM Sky Blue® program has the 8th largest number of customers in the country among investor-owned utilities. To celebrate this ranking and the approach of Earth Day, PNM today took nearly 200 PNM Sky Blue® customers to the 204 megawatt New Mexico Wind Energy Center in House, NM, from which PNM purchases wind energy for the program. The wind facility is among the largest in the world and is not ordinarily open to the public. “Our PNM Sky Blue® customers have shown admirable leadership by voluntarily paying more to have a portion of their electricity come from wind energy,” said Jeff Sterba, PNM Chairman, President and CEO. “This tour is our way of thanking them for making this program a national success story, and putting New Mexico near the top of a list that we can all take pride in.” The customers will make the three-hour journey to the wind facility on four chartered tour buses. Once there they will be served a picnic lunch and be given hands-on access to the massive wind turbine structures, which stand 210 feet tall and catch the wind with three 110-foot blades that turn almost noiselessly. The tour was offered exclusively to PNM Sky Blue customers on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers interested in the PNM Sky Blue wind energy program can learn more at PNM.com.
