News ReleaseOct. 9, 2006 PNM Hosts International Electric Utility Conference
Albuquerque: PNM will serve as host to more than 2,000 electric utility professionals from 30 countries who will converge on Albuquerque the week of October 16 for the 11th Annual International Conference and Exhibition on Transmission and Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance. “Just as we need to develop cleaner, more efficient ways to meet growing energy demands, we also need more robust and smarter systems to deliver it. Hosting this event is a way for PNM to further the knowledge and techniques that support the most basic part of our national grid, our distribution and transmission lines -- and the innovations that will improve them,” said Jeff Sterba, Chairman, President and CEO of PNM Resources, an energy holding company located in Albuquerque. PNM is a subsidiary of PNM Resources. "Between 2004 and 2008, utilities nationwide will invest or have invested nearly $30 billion just on transmission to maintain and expand the system that is vital to our national economy," Sterba said. The goal of the conference, notes Larry Schweitzer, ESMO 2006 General Chairman, is to bring together experts from around the world to engage in conversations about the latest work methods that can impact the way today’s power delivery systems are built and operated. “No topic is more important today in the electric utility industry than reliability. The conference is designed to provide industry professionals with hands-on and knowledge-based solutions to some of the most pressing problems in these areas,” said Doug Hobbs, Senior Vice President of Customer & Delivery Services for PNM Resources and President and CEO of Texas-New Mexico Power Company (TNMP). The conference includes two days of indoor exhibits and workshops at the Convention Center plus outdoor demonstrations on line safety, construction and maintenance at PNM’s Reeves Generating Station in Albuquerque. Organizers expect the conference to result in more than a million dollars in revenue for Albuquerque businesses that are providing conference services, as well as lodging, food and transportation for attendees.
