Albuquerque: Teachers across New Mexico are invited to apply for a PNM Classroom Innovation Grant starting Oct. 5. Approximately $200,000 in grants from the nonprofit PNM Fund will be available to help educators bring innovative teaching ideas to life in the classroom.

Full-time teachers, K through 12, in New Mexico public and private schools, and pre-kindergarten teachers with an early childhood license, are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted online at PNM.com/innovation by 5 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2007 to be considered for grants. The application includes a project description, objectives, budget and evaluation.

“Good teachers know how to make learning a joy, and that children respond to hands-on and interactive educational experiences. We want teachers to have the resources to give their students those special learning opportunities -- the 'aha experience' in the classroom,” said Diane Harrison Ogawa, executive director of the PNM Resources Foundation, a separate nonprofit originally endowed by a gift from earnings by PNM Resources shareholders to improve the quality of life for New Mexicans. The PNM Fund is a division of the PNM Resources Foundation.

PNM also publishes a free electronic newsletter for teachers, which is loaded with teaching ideas based on Classroom Innovation Grant-winning projects, plus tips on how to write a successful grant application. Visit PNM.com/innovation to sign up for the newsletter, to apply for a grant or to see a list of previous grant winners.

The PNM Fund is a division of the PNM Resources Foundation, a nonprofit established to improve the quality of life in New Mexico and Texas. The PNM Resources Foundation is a separate nonprofit tax-exempt corporation and was originally endowed by a gift from earnings by shareholders of PNM Resources.
