PNM Receives National Award for Employee Safety

Albuquerque: PNM has been given a national award for outstanding achievement in promoting operations safety by the American Gas Association, a natural gas trade association.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and the safety of our staff,” said PNM Vice President Eddie Padilla, who oversees PNM gas and electric operations. “We are proud of our safety record and are committed to doing even better in the future.”

Employees of PNM’s utility operations work an average of 4.8 million hours and travel more than 11.5 million miles every year to provide gas service to 481,000 customers and electric service to 426,000 customers.

The award is given annually by the American Gas Association to those utilities with the lowest employee disability injury and illness rate. To receive the award, a company also must have an employee disability injury rate lower than the average industry rate. PNM was one of 12 companies honored by the association this year. The presentation was made at the association's 2006 operations conference in Boston May 4.
