PNM Extends Deadline for Renewable Energy Proposals
Albuquerque: Third-party energy suppliers interested in supplying PNM
with renewable energy certificates (RECs) and possibly power and capacity now
have more time to prepare their proposals.
PNM has extended two key deadlines associated with a request for proposals
(RFP) it issued Oct. 21. Notices of intent to respond to the RFP are now due
Dec. 9, and final proposals are due Dec. 22.
"We have extended the deadline to give applicants five more weeks to
put their proposals together," said Evelin Wheeler, PNM director of planning,
strategy and analytics. "We hope this will result in a larger and stronger
group of proposals for PNM to consider."
In order to help PNM meet the terms of New Mexico's renewable portfolio standard
(RPS), which favors resource diversity, the utility is looking for bids for
non-wind renewable resources, including solar, biomass and geothermal. PNM
already purchases a large amount of wind energy from one of the world's largest
wind energy facilities, the 200-megawatt New Mexico Wind Energy Center located
near Ft. Sumner, N.M.
Wheeler said the company understands that some potential respondents may not
be able to submit detailed responses to some of the RFP's requests – such
as information regarding credit worthiness, engineering plans, and environmental
and siting plans – but that this should not discourage interested suppliers
from responding.
"We want to hear from any and all suppliers who believe they have competitive
projects that could begin producing power and associated RECs in New Mexico
in 2009," she said.
Applicants with questions about the RFP should contact PNM's Laurie Williams
at (505) 241-0641.
