Farmington: Starting this September, PNM will be constructing a four-mile natural gas pipeline along the Murray Drive corridor to enhance natural gas reliability in the region and provide service to the City of Farmington's new gas-fired power plant.

Because of the importance of Murray Drive as a transportation artery and business sector, PNM and the City of Farmington will host an open house on Thursday, August 5, in order to share information about the project and answer questions from the public. The open house will begin at 7 p.m. at the Expo #1 Room at the Farmington Civic Center at 200 West Arrington. Anyone interested in this project is encouraged to attend.

"We want to be certain that information is readily available to motorists, residents and business owners in the area," said Dan Engert, district engineer at PNM. "We have planned this project to have the least possible impact while we perform this critical gas line construction project."

Construction of the pipeline is scheduled to begin September 13, 2004 and be completed December 17, 2004. PNM will construct four miles of pipeline, starting at the east end of Monroe, then on to Murray Drive continuing to one-half mile west of where Murray Drive crosses the Animas River. Construction will be in four sections along the route; each section is between 4,000 and 7,000 feet. The daily disturbance will be between 500 and 800 feet. Construction will briefly require the closure of the eastbound lanes on the corridor; however, two-way traffic will remain open at all times during construction in the westbound lanes.

Some intersections with small side streets will also be closed at various times during the project, but access to Murray Drive will not be significantly reduced and detour routes will be clearly marked.

The work schedule calls for construction to occur during daylight hours. PNM urges all area residents to drive with extra caution through the area while work crews construct the pipeline.

PNM has also created a project hotline where residents and business owners can get up-to-date project information and record their questions or comments. The hotline number is (505) 324-3747. A PNM representative will check the hotline messages regularly.
