News ReleaseJuly 28, 2003 PNM and Schools Work Together to Expand GED Program
Albuquerque: Thanks to a collaboration between PNM and several different institutions of higher education around the state, more people in New Mexico wishing to take their General Education Development (GED) test will have an opportunity to do so free of charge. Beginning this week, PNM, in conjunction with the New Mexico State Department of Education GED Office, will run Spanish and English radio ads in 10 New Mexico communities promoting GED high school equivalency degrees. For a limited time, PNM will pay the testing fees for New Mexicans who wish to participate. PNM hopes that many of the thousands of New Mexicans who have not yet graduated from high school will take this opportunity to get the educational freedom they need to live better lives. PNM launched the GED program in Albuquerque last year to help community members earn their high school equivalency degree by paying for the necessary testing. On average, people with a GED degree earn $6,000 more a year than people without a degree. Were excited to participate in this partnership that helps our customers, said Roger Larsen, PNM marketing manager. PNM has a personal commitment to create stronger, more vibrant communities. The GED promotion is offered in Hobbs, Santa Fe, Alamogordo, Las Vegas, Farmington, Clovis, Roswell, Albuquerque, Tucumcari and Las Cruces. To take advantage of the offer, call (866) GED-4YOU. PNM is the principal subsidiary of PNM Resources, an energy holding company based in Albuquerque. PNM provides natural gas service to 441,000 gas customers and electric utility service to 385,000 customers in New Mexico. The company also sells power on the wholesale market in the Western U.S. PNM Resources stock is traded primarily on the NYSE under the symbol PNM.
