News ReleaseSept. 12, 2001 New PNM Parking Garage Challenges Tradition
Albuquerque: A new parking garage in Downtown Albuquerque strays from tradition by combining function with a freeform design. The structure at the corner of Silver and Fifth streets will serve about 450 PNM employees and will also house some of the company's fleet vehicles. "Who says a parking garage has to be flat and brown?" said Marc Christensen, senior vice president at PNM who oversaw the design and construction of the structure. "We wanted something that would not only serve our employees, but would also contribute to the overall aesthetics of the Downtown area." The parking garage features a silhouetted cityscape on its west side, finished in desert and river tones. The river theme is also reflected on the east and south sides of the structure with metal "waves" spanning those surfaces. PNM selected the design of BPLW architectural firm and employed Jaynes construction to complete the 19-month project.
