Sustainability
This policy is driven by the company's broader goal of
achieving sustainability — meeting the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations
to meet their own needs. To truly build America's best merchant
utility, we must operate under a sustainable business model
that balances economic interests with the needs and limits
of the natural environment.
PNM Resources embraces the concept of sustainability and
aspires to balance economic, environmental and social interests
because it is in the best interests of the company, the
community and the world to meet the energy needs of today
without forsaking the needs of future generations.
As a member of the greater community, we seek to achieve
sustainability and will work towards this desired end with
other members of society as a whole. Ambitious as this goal
may be, we must recognize that meaningful and lasting change
will occur gradually. The transition must be deliberate
and well-thought out to avoid disruptive, unintended consequences.
As we set out on this transition, we will be guided by
this environmental policy. We will identify priorities and
commit the appropriate resources to begin addressing them.
Together with decision makers outside of the company, we
will innovatively find sustainable solutions to replace
unsustainable practices.
With time, focus, diligence and discipline, we will achieve
sustainability. We will establish our company as a model
of sustainable business practices that not only ensures
a future for the generations to come, but also serves as
an example for them to follow. In so doing, we will make
PNM Resources more valuable to shareholders, customers and
society.
