Proposed changes

PNM, Western Resources Advocates, the Coalition for Clean Affordable Energy and staff of the N.M. Public Regulation Commission have agreed on a proposal to update PNM Sky Blue® voluntary renewable energy program.

  • The Commission must hold hearings on the proposal and give its approval before any changes to the program can be made.
    • In the meantime, PNM Sky Blue® program remains the same.
  • We expect hearings to be held in February or March and a decision later this year.
  • Proposed program changes are not currently available.

Current program

When you sign up for PNM Sky Blue you are purchasing electricity generated by New Mexico's winds - a renewable energy source.

It's an easy and affordable way for you to demonstrate your commitment to our state and the environment.

  • completely voluntary;
  • no contracts or long term commitments;
  • continue to receive reliable service from PNM.

Home and small business customers can choose to participate in one of two ways:

Option 1: Purchase "blocks" of 100 kilowatt hours of electricity at $0.52 per month above regular rates.

    • The average home customer will be able to purchase up to four blocks.
    • The average small business customer will be able to purchase up to 13 blocks.
    • Your purchase maximum, however, will be based on your usage.
      • The number of blocks purchased can't exceed 90 percent of your minimum monthly usage from the previous 12 months.

Option 2: Subscribe for 90 percent of your monthly electric consumption.

    • Your additional monthly billing amount for PNM Sky Blue® will rise or fall depending on your actual usage.

Large business customers have several participation choices:

  • Purchase renewable energy at the level of your choice: 1 percent, 2 percent, 3 percent, 5 percent, 10 percent, 50 percent or 90 percent of your monthly usage.
    • Your additional monthly billing amount for PNM Sky Blue® will rise or fall depending on your actual usage.

Subscription costs will be included on your bill in addition to your regular monthly billing amounts.
