Many times a power outage may last for a few minutes, a few seconds or even just for an instant. We recognize nonetheless that setting blinking clocks and finding that a VCR stopped taping a television show early can be frustrating for our customers. In years past, it was common for many outages to last far longer than a few minutes. The automated applications we use now, however, detect outages right away and our operations center staff re-routes power around an outage area to as many customers as possible — sometimes in just a few moments. A complete fix of an outage commonly requires repair work to be conducted by a PNM employee who travels to the location where an outage started. Our command center's re-routing of electricity can significantly reduce the number of customers affected by a lengthy outage.
