Understanding Definitions on My Bill
This information formerly appeared on the back of the PNM bill you receive
every month.
In order to save paper, PNM now prints your specific account information on
both sides of the pages you receive. This enables PNM to save 660 trees per

Explanatory information
We appreciate the opportunity to serve you, and we thank you for your
continued business. Listed below are the questions most frequently asked by
customers about the terms found on their electric bill:
- What is "kWH"? A kilowatt hour is 1000 watts of electricity used
for one hour.
- What is "PV Refinancing Credit"? This credit is your share of
savings from refinancing the Palo Verde Lease Debt.
- What does the "Customer Charge" include? This charge includes
the cost for electric line maintenance and for meter reading and billing
services.
- What is "Fuel & Purchased Power Adjustment"? This charge
$0.00714 per kWh used, and it is applied to all customer bills as of June
2008. It reflects the increased cost of fuel to produce electricity. The
charge is reviewed every six months by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
- What is "Franchise Fee"? This fee is imposed by cities for the
use of public rights-of-way to bring electricity to your home or business.
- What is the "Energy Efficiency Fee"? This charge covers the cost of energy efficiency programs approved by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission. The fee for "electric energy efficiency" is 1.881% of the total customer bill for commercial and residential customers with PNM electric service. For information on current energy efficiency programs, please visit Rebates and Discounts.
- What is the "Synergy Savings Credit"? This credit is the result of estimated savings associated with the 2005 PNM Resources acquisition of TNMP and First Choice Power. PNM is passing along $4.6 million of savings to its electric customers starting in 2008.
- What is "Credit: PNM SO2 allowance sales"? PNM is permitted to produce a certain amount of sulfur dioxide (SO2) as part of the electricity generation process. When we produce less than the amount allowed, PNM is permitted to sell the remaining allowances to others. Customers receive the benefit of these sales through a credit on their bill.
- When is Payment Due? Your payment is due when you receive your bill. If
it is not received within 20 calendar days from the mail date, the bill becomes
delinquent. A late payment charge of 0.667% per month will be assessed on
past due amounts that remain outstanding when the next month’s bill
is calculated. In the event of non-payment, electric service may
be disconnected. A reconnect fee and a security deposit may be required.
- Need help paying your bill? To discuss payment options, please contact us as soon as possible.
- What is the "PNM Good Neighbor Fund"? The money you contribute
is used for financial aid for energy bills for qualifying low-income individuals
and families. This fund is made possible through your tax-deductible contributions
matched by PNM shareholders. Thank you for considering a contribution.
Please indicate the amount you are contributing in the box on the return
stub.
In the event that your check is returned unpaid for insufficient or uncollected
funds, we may re-present your check electronically. Your check may not be provided
