The greatest risk to underground natural gas pipeline is accidental damage during excavation. It is also the most common cause of accidents.

PNM will go to the site within two business days and mark the location of our lines, in yellow. It’s free. If you damage a natural gas line, you could be charged for repairs, and there could be additional fines up to $5,000 levied by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.

If you cause what appears to be only minor damage to a natural gas pipeline, immediately contact PNM. A scrape on the pipeline coating, or a dent or crease in the pipeline may cause a rupture or leak in the future. Do no attempt to make repairs yourself.
