The dream of home ownership came true for an Albuquerque family of six. PNM employees built a Habitat for Humanity home during the summer of 2004.

PNM joined with media partner KASA Fox 2 News at Nine and Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity to build the four-bedroom house, which became the first home owned by the Albuquerque family.

More than 300 PNM employees and retirees volunteered to help build the family's home in southwest Albuquerque.

To help them make the adjustment to home ownership, Habitat for Humanity home owners receive a PNM-developed comprehensive home owners' manual with information on day-to-day routine maintenance guidelines. PNM also donated low-water plants for landscaping all the Habitat homes in this southwest subdivision.

Habitat for Humanity is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing resources and volunteers together to build affordable homes.

The group has built more than 100,000 houses around the world, providing more than 500,000 people in more than 2,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
