New Mexico ranks second in the country for lightning strikes. Every year, lightning, thunderstorms and high winds have the potential to cause death and serious injury to New Mexicans.

Safety is the principle that guides all PNM repairs and restoration efforts. For example, a line down on the ground will receive top priority because of potential for danger to the public.

PNM is among the nation's best in electricity reliability — i.e., keeping the lights on — and we restore 80 percent of weather-related outages within two hours. Lightning, wind and rain are the biggest causes of outages on the PNM system.
