Renewable Electricity Now Available Through
PNM Sky Blue
Albuquerque: PNM customers who wish to express their
commitment to the environment can now do so by purchasing
wind-generated electricity through the PNM Sky Blue program.
Wind-generated electricity through PNM Sky Blue became available
today, in concert with the official dedication of the New
Mexico Wind Energy Center near House, N.M. The new facility
is capable of producing up to 204 megawatts of electricity,
enough to power more than 94,000 homes.
PNM Sky Blue is a voluntary program that adds a minimal subscription
fee to a customer's regular monthly billing amounts. By subscribing
to PNM Sky Blue, customers help insure that a portion of the
electricity they use is generated from renewable wind energy,
without using water and without producing air emissions.
Customers who are interested in subscribing to PNM Sky Blue
can do so online by visiting PNM.com, by calling PNM, by visiting
a PNM walk-in office or by sending in a form they will find
in their October PNM bill.
"We have tried to make PNM Sky Blue easily accessible
to our customers who would like to subscribe by offering them
a number of ways to enroll in the program," said Cindy
McGill, PNM's Vice President of Customer and Market Services.
"We know many of our customers are eager to participate
in this exciting program."
Home and small business customers can opt to purchase 100
kWh "blocks" of electricity for a flat $1.80 a month,
or subscribe for 90 percent of their monthly electric consumption
so the amount they pay would depend on the amount of electricity
they use.
Commercial and large business customers may purchase renewable
energy at several participation levels: 1 percent, 2 percent,
3 percent, 5 percent, 10 percent, 50 percent or 90 percent
of their monthly usage. The additional PNM Sky Blue monthly
billing amount would rise or fall depending on the customer's
actual usage.
PNM is the principal subsidiary of PNM Resources,
an energy holding company based in Albuquerque. PNM provides
natural gas service to 441,000 gas customers and electric
utility service to 378,000 customers in New Mexico. The company
also sells power on the wholesale market in the Western U.S.
PNM Resources stock is traded primarily on the NYSE under
the symbol PNM.
