Albuquerque: PNM is helping consumers find new ways to save on their energy bills. The new Home Energy Analysis is available online, on a CD or as a booklet version through the mail to PNM's residential and commercial customers.

“The PNM Home Energy Analysis will help customers take control of how they use energy,” said PNM Executive Vice President Roger Flynn. “Customers just answer some easy questions about their homes and their energy habits, the program analyzes the answers and produces a detailed report, complete with suggestions on how to save.”

The report might suggest, for instance, replacing conventional light bulbs with compact fluorescents, installing a heat trap on your hot water heater or raising the temperature in your refrigerator.

The survey has just over 100 questions. The online version and the CD can give instant suggestions on ways to save. For the booklet version, customers send completed questionnaires to PNM and about two weeks later receive a detailed report in the mail. The PNM Home Energy Analysis booklet does have some immediate suggestions and energy facts, however, such as:

Front loading washing machines use less energy and water, and are reported to cause less wear and tear on clothes.

Regularly scheduled maintenance of your hot water heater will not only save energy, but will also extend the life of the system.

Regularly covering your waterbed with a comforter can reduce energy waste.

“When consumers take conservation seriously, they can make a significant difference in the amount they spend on heating and cooling,” said Flynn. “This energy analysis tool is a free service to help people manage their energy consumption.”

With the Business Energy Analysis, case studies outline typical energy use for several types of businesses. A detailed analysis is also available by inputting information about your business.
