PNM is committed to working with our customers to find generation and distribution solutions to their energy needs. Several large customers have established goals for using clean energy and reducing their carbon footprint. Through a collaborative partnership, PNM and its large customers, including the City of Albuquerque, have created the PNM Solar Direct program to help achieve these higher sustainability goals in a cost-effective way.

PNM Solar Direct is a first-of-its-kind, innovative opportunity in New Mexico for large electric customers with an aggregate load of 2.5 megawatts or greater, to achieve their higher sustainability goals while reducing their carbon footprint.

Customers could include:

  • Governmental entities of any size
  • PNM service area Tribal lands
  • Tribal entities such as Albuquerque Indian School district
  • City municipalities
  • County entities
  • State entities
  • Public education schools
  • University and college educational institutions
  • Businesses

As approved by the New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission on March 25, a 50-megawatt universal solar field will be built by Hecate Energy in Rio Arriba County on 500-acres of the Jicarilla Apache Nation land.

This project is the third largest solar project on Tribal lands in the United States.

Any customer meeting the aggregate load requirements of 2.5 megawatts or greater may subscribe to the voluntary PNM Solar Direct program to receive this solar electricity at a set price. These customer must commit to take the requested amount of electricity for 15 years. The fixed price of electricity over the term of the subscription will protect these customers from fluctuating energy costs who will also receive a credit on their bills based on their subscription levels.

This site will produce enough clean energy to power approximately 16,000 average homes for a year.

For PNM, this new program is consistent with the company's ongoing transition to cleaner, sustainable energy resources.
