PNM Names Deming Businesses "Energy Stars"

Local Businesses Receive More Than $56,000 in PNM Rebates for Energy Efficiency Upgrades

 

Albuquerque: Today PNM recognized five local businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2014 by participating in PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs. The Deming Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Mizkan Americas, Inc. - top winner in the Large Business category with the highest energy savings.
  • Deming Public School District - top winner in the Nonprofit / Government Organization category with the highest energy savings.
  • Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Company - top winner in the Small Business category with the highest energy savings. 
  • Tinley Tee Tire - honorable mention winner in the Small Business category with the highest energy savings.
  • Walgreens - honorable mention winner in the Most Innovative category with the highest energy savings.

"Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do," said Amy Miller, director, PNM Environment, Local Government and Community Affairs. "We've enjoyed working with Deming businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us." 

Mizkan Americas, Inc. replaced interior and exterior lighting fixtures including lamps and ballasts, exit signs and occupancy sensors. The retrofit lighting project will save 514,568 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, and earned the company a rebate of $42,239 through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program.

Deming Public School District's retrofit lighting project included adding custom lighting and replacing exit signs and 2,700 occupancy sensors.  Additionally, the school district upgraded its heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and added energy-efficient ice machines. The project will save 15,787 kilowatt hours of electricity each year, and earned the school district a rebate of $1,306 through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program. 

Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Company replaced 94 lighting fixtures, which will save 41,270 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. With that savings, the project will pay for itself in less than one year. Foxworth-Galbraith received a rebate of $4,952 for its project through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program.

Tinley Tree Tire replaced 43 lighting fixtures, which will save 15,689 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. With that savings, the project will pay for itself in less than one year. Tinley Tree Tire received a rebate of $2,016 for its project through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program.

Walgreens upgraded its HVAC systems and refrigerated case lighting. Additionally, the company's new construction project included lighting density and energy-efficient HVAC systems. The projects will save 57,137 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, and earned Walgreens rebates totaling $5,933 through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Program.

Since 2009, businesses in Deming have received more than $161,800 in rebates through PNM programs aimed at helping businesses make energy-efficient upgrades. Those businesses are credited with saving over 1,762,500 kilowatt hours of energy annually. That savings is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 882 metric tons, conserving 628,865 gallons of water and powering 245 homes for a year.
