PNM Recognizes East Mountain Businesses for Their Energy-Efficient Upgrades

Albuquerque - On Thursday, October 5, PNM recognized local businesses that went above and beyond in saving energy in 2016 by participating in PNM business energy efficiency rebate programs.  The recognition took place at the East Mountains Los Vecinos Community Center. The top two East Mountain PNM Business Energy Efficiency Stars are:

  • Mom's Gas & Food - small business with the highest energy savings
  • East Mountain High School - nonprofit/government/public service business with highest energy savings

"Helping business customers save money by becoming more energy-wise is an important part of what we do," said PNM Vice President of External Affairs, Becky Teague. "We've enjoyed working with East Mountain businesses to help find ways to reduce energy use and we hope more businesses will join us."

The top award in the small business category goes to Mom's Gas & Food for their energy savings project that included installing controllers to help regulate their energy use in walk-in coolers.  The project will save 54,885 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, saved the equivalent to 30 metric tons of CO2, and 18,002 gallons of water. Their efforts saved enough energy to power 8 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Their efforts saved enough energy to power 3 homes for a year through the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs.

Since 2007, PNM energy efficiency programs have provided more than $67 million in customer rebates and helped save almost 2.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity – enough to power approximately 378,000 homes for a year. These programs have kept an estimated 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide out of the air and saved 876 million gallons of water.
