Stay Safe During a Power Outage

Report your outage and sign up for outage alerts so we can let you know by text, email or phone when there's an outage affecting you.

Call 911 if you have an emergency.

Electrical equipment

  • Turn off any appliances (like stoves) and unplug electrical equipment that you were using when the power went out.
  • Turn off all lights, except one, so you'll know when power has been restored.
  • Unplug sensitive electronics, such as computers and flat-screened TVs.


  • Keep refrigerator or freezer doors closed as much as possible.
  • Food in the refrigerator will keep cold for about four hours if door is kept closed.
  • A full freezer will keep food frozen for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the door is kept closed.
  • Buy dry or block ice to keep the refrigerator as cold as possible if the power is going to be out for more than four hours.

Fallen power lines

Fallen power lines are dangerous, and can be deadly if you come in contact with one:

  • If you come across a fallen power line, do not touch the line. Do not go near it or anything that is touching it, such as a tree branch, fence or vehicle. Contact us immediately: 1-888-DIAL-PNM / 1-888-342-5766.
  • Always assume electricity is running through it, whether you see sparks or not.

  • Is it necessary to let PNM know when my power goes out?
    • Yes. We may not always know if there's an outage at your specific location, so it's best to let us know. You don't have to call, though. You can also report it online or through our mobile site.
  • How can I find the status of an outage without having to call?
    • You can view our online outage map or check our mobile outage map to view the status of an outage. For large outages ¿ generally those affecting 1,000 customer or more ¿ we post updates on our Twitter and Facebook pages. more...
  • When is the estimated restore time updated?
    • In most cases, we post updates during an outage every 20 minutes.
