Beware of calls claiming to come from PNM

This summer a few customers have reported to PNM that they have received phone calls from people posing as PNM employees attempting to collect money.

We do call customers whose payments are overdue. But when we do so, we may offer various quick payment options, including:

  • paying online.
  • visiting a Western Union office.
  • paying immediately on the phone.

How you pay the bill is your choice. We may provide a hard deadline by which you must pay, but you choose how to pay.

If you doubt whether a call is legitimate

You can offer to call back if you're unsure whether a call actually is from PNM. You then can call 888-342-5766.

In that scenario, however, be sure to call us back right away in case your account is subject to disconnection for non-payment.

Reports of people claiming to represent PNM on Disconnect Notices

PNM also has received a report of a person wearing clothes with a PNM logo asking for payment to prevent a disconnection of gas service. PNM does not have any gas service operations at all, so customers should never give payment for gas service to a person claiming to be from PNM.

If a person claims to be from PNM and asks for payment to prevent disconnection of electric service, please make sure that in addition to clothing that has a PNM logo, the person has a PNM identification badge.
